Text description provided by the architects. The future westward extension of the Landeyeux Hospital includes a therapeutic pool and a physiotherapy room. The new volume forms a pivotal space between the old hospital building and the staff apartment building. A footbridge connects the project to the existing structures.
This is a simple volume whose edges are subtly angled in a plan and elevation. The façade is designed in copper panels, which are totally flush with the glazing to create a completely flat skin. The footbridge is designed as an “outgrowth” of the main volume, and echoes its use of materials.
The double-height pool interacts with the landscape by framing it through a series of windows. Large skylights and internal windows to the physiotherapy room provide daylight. Colored unfinished concrete walls enclose the major spaces of the scheme with traffic areas between. Complementary materials are used for the floors and ceilings.
